A New World Circus: An Unpopular Opinion on The Greatest Showman
This is a revolution, a landmark, in film and music! Welcome to a social shift in moral law, everybody. Plato once said, “Musical innovation is full of danger to the State, for when modes of music change, the fundamental laws of the State always change with them" (280) . The Greatest Showman is an exciting, fun movie, but its driving principles, hidden in song and lyric, are to be taken with extreme caution. I beg you, do not sit back and allow your mind to become amused and comfortable in this entertainment. Though inclusion and acceptance are noble attempts within this movie, it should be duly noted that acceptance and inclusion cannot be paralleled with chaos and extremities, like those found in a circus.
